Police Commissioner, Hakeem Odumosu has vows to fished out man whose action caused Balogun market fire.
He also appealed to traders insisting on staying on already distressed buildings despite entreaties to consider their lives and vacate them.
The police boss spoke last night when he visited the scene for on-the-spot assessment of the incident.
According to him, six buildings had collapsed already and four were very distressed and could cave in at any moment.
He ordered that the six entry/exits points to the affected area be cordoned off, warning that on no condition should hoodlums be allowed until owners of goods kept in open spaces evacuated them.
“The full asssesment cannot be said now but what I have just seen so far is that this is man made and avoidable disaster. Information gathered on the ground is that someone whose shop was in one of the top floors was refuelling a generator powered on.
“Definitely, that (arrest and prosecution of the person) will come but you know that our focus at the moment is operation to contain the situation. We have to save lives and properties first and then commence investigation to fish out the culprit.
“So, definitely, the person will be prosecuted. We know where the thing started and we have documents so investigation will bring those ones out but now our priority is not to go after him but to make sure that there is no further collateral damage both property and life,” he said.
