Nigerian Billionaire company, Dangote Group Of Companies, owned by Aliko Dangote has asked its core staff to calculate the lockdown period used at home as a compulsory unpaid leave.
The information was passed to staff via an internal memo on April 27 and was tagged; “Work Hours Vis-A-Vis Lockdown”. Reports have it that, the workers are complaining bitterly about the development.
Here’s what was written in the memo;
“This is to advise all staff that the lockdown period will be regarded as part of Leave Period and therefore annual leave consuming. Where any staff has exhausted his/her leave period a commensurate amount will be deducted to cover the period.
Please be suitably guided.”
A top management staff of the the company, who spoke on condition of anonymity and leaked this information, expressed total dismay.
According to the staff, most of the displeasure stemmed from the cruelty of how the decision was made and allowed to happen, irrespective of whether the richest man in Africa knew about it or not.
The manager said; “How on Earth will the reverend philanthropist allow such cruelty to pass through with or without his consent.”
