The Federal Government has made it know that Nigerians will receive cash payment through Bank Verification Numbers as palliative.
It was earlier reported that National Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu urged the Federal Government to make cash payments to households through Bank Verification Numbers (BVN) to cushion the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on Nigerians.
The Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Sadiya Farouq disclose this while responding to questions at Presidential Task Force briefing on COVID-19 on Tuesday, noted that deploying digital means will be faster and make the distribution more effective.
Tinubu, the former governor of Lagos State, made the recommendation in a speech released Wednesday in Lagos. He said money can be paid directly to the beneficiaries’ account using their BVN.
The APC added that security would be better served by sending money to the fund and stated that it would end the disputes over the distribution of cash by hand.
Tinubu said doing so would also attract more people, especially poor villagers, to open a bank account. “There are poor homes that need food, water, and other amenities.
There is a need for compassion for such people. “Many homes in Nigeria need support to fight hunger and avoid suffering,” Tinubu said.
